A compelling and intricate crime drama, The Wolf Among Us brings to players the characters that millions of people around the world grew up with from the fairy tales everyone knows and loves.

Fables determine the fates of these characters, forcing each one out of their traditional "home" to somewhat dark world known as New York. Characters from fables are given a real life as real people, roaming around the city as Snow White, Tweedle Dee and Tweedle Dum as well as the notorious Big Bad Wolf.

The latest installment created by Telltale Games, The Wolf Among Us explores DC Comic's world of Fables, a series created and produced by Bill Willingham.

Point and Click Driven

The Wolf Among Us runs on a point-and-click engine. The game provides players with linear quests, as a storyline element is a major part of gameplay. The Wolf Among Us also includes the branching of dialogue trees as players interact and make decisions based on personal preferences throughout the story.

During the first episode, players will learn that faith differs depending entirely on the decisions made throughout the game: how specific tasks are handled and the responses given by the player all have a major role in how the story unfolds.

As a result of the game's dynamic playability, The Wolf Among Us creates a compelling reason to be played. Most of the time, players are calling all the shots. In fact, they are responsible for leading the story in either a positive or negative direction. Telltale's formula creates a better understanding of the elements being used.

Fables has more than 100 issues with a rich history. The Wolf Among Us occurs before the initial series, introducing players to characters they recognize before their first appearances in the DC comic books.

The Wolf Among Us consists of five episodes. Each one doesn't take a lot of time to finish. And at the end of each episode, any decision made by players are broken down and summarized. As a result, all of those decisions are imported into its next episode, allowing it to continuously affect the player's experience throughout the rest of the game.

Action

The Wolf Among Us moves at a much faster pace than The Walking Dead. And as players go through the game as Bigby, they can expect to enter an environment similar to that of a crime drama. The use of keyboard and mouse work extremely well as players explore. They're also very effective during exciting scenes.

The Wolf Among Us is a very linear game and has limited room for exploration because of this. However, its in-depth writing makes up for it. Small details showcase the detail involved in Fable's universe.

A Stylish Universe

Telltale has managed to created an entirely new aesthetic for its games. And although The Wolf Among Us doesn't exactly have the comic-like look, its animations are satisfying enough to disregard that.

Players should keep in mind that even though this game revolves around fairy tale characters, it isn't a very good alternative for children, as dialogue takes on a more adult theme.

Emotionally Satisfying

The first episode of The Wolf Among Us sets the tone for the rest of the series and the story only grows more intense from there. As more characters are introduced with their own unique and mysterious baggage, players can expect to encounter four more exciting and crazy episodes.

Past decisions will inevitably carry over to following episodes, which tailors the gameplay experience to each player. Players could also re-visit each episode and make different decisions in order to see how the action unfolds in various scenarios.

It's evident that Telltale Games has created a compelling game that's more than enjoyable. The Wolf Among Us could prove to be better than The Walking Dead.
